Dedicated Newcastle fans could be spending as much as one in every seven pounds they have on following their team.
Supporters who go to 19 home and five away games will spend £2,124 following the Magpies in 2019/20, according to eToro's Fan Financial Statement, produced in association with KPMG.
That works out at 14% of the average disposable annual income in Tyneside, or one pound in every seven.
No other club’s supporters will spend a higher share of their take-home pay following their club than Newcastle’s.
Only Liverpool fans spend as high a share of their disposable income following their team (also 14%).
The £2,124 Newcastle fans will spend following their team in this dedicated way is the second highest total of any set of Premier League fans.
Arsenal supporters face spending the most (£2,238) followed by Newcastle (£2,124), Tottenham (£2,113), Chelsea (£2,107) and Liverpool (£2,055).
The report by eToro found that match-going Premier League fans will spend an estimated £1.3bn following their club this season.
That’s an increase of nearly a third (31%) since the 2014/15 campaign.
It will cost the average dedicated fan (defined in the report as one who goes to 19 home and five away games) £1,888 to follow their team this season, an average of 8% of the UK take-home salary.
Newcastle’s geographic location means that they get stung by travel costs more than any other side.
Travelling to every away game by train would cost fans an estimated £1,916 according to the report - the most of any side in the division.
It’s almost twice as much as the division’s average of £1,020.
