Revealed: Revised schedule for 2021 British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa

This is the revised schedule for the British and Irish Lions’ tour of South Africa.

Host nation broadcaster SuperSport revealed the eight-match itinerary on their First XV programme.

It reveals a wildly different look from the initial schedule which was to start in Cape Town, visit Port Elizabeth, Durban and Nelspruit before heading to the High Veldt.

Due to the pandemic and the need to remain in biosecure bubbles, the tourists will now remain in Johannesburg for the first three games, playing the first two in the city and the third in Pretoria.

They will then head to Cape Town for matches against South Africa A and the Stormers and the first Test against the Springboks.

The tour will then return to Johannesburg where the final two Tests are expected to be staged at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, where football’s 2010 World Cup final was played.

The Lions are expected to confirm the fixture list on Wednesday.

There remain hopes that spectators will be able to attend games, with a best case scenario of 50 per cent capacities.

South African Rugby is awaiting a response from its government, whilst planning for matches to be played behind closed doors.
