Manchester United fans have named the black Sharp Viewcam kit worn between 1993 and 1995 as the most iconic away strip in the club’s history.
As proud partners of Shelter’s #NoHomeKit campaign, we asked United fans to have their say on the club’s best away kits.
It proved to be a close-run thing, with two kits from the early 90s gaining over 30 per cent of the vote.
With 36.3% of the votes, United’s black kit, made by Umbro, came in first place.
It’s easy to see why this kit is popular, with many fans still wearing it as a retro item today.
United completed a Premier League and FA Cup double in 1993/94 - this kit’s debut season - and it was worn by truly iconic Reds, such as Eric Cantona and Roy Keane.
In second place was another kit worn during the 1993/94 season - the club’s green and gold third strip, which gained 32.6% of the vote.
Harking back to the club’s origins as Newton Heath, the green and gold kit remains popular with fans, who have taken it on as a protest towards the Glazer ownership.
Another kit from the early 90s was in third place, with the club’s blue and white patterned away kit worn between 1990 and 1992 taking 21% of the vote.
The kit formed the basis for this season’s popular away strip.
In fourth place, with 7.5% of the vote, was the white Sharp Viewcam kit worn between 1997 and 1999.
Famous for iconic wins in the club’s treble season, such as Ryan Giggs’ legendary FA Cup goal against Arsenal, the Umbro kit features a black horizontal stripe going across the midriff.
In last place with 2.6% of the vote was United’s infamous grey shirt from 1995/96 that Sir Alex Ferguson demanded the players change at half-time against Southampton.
