Revealed: How much Rangers paid Liverpool for controversial former Bristol City flop

Ryan Kent has finally departed Liverpool on a permanent basis.

The former Bristol City loan flop, who played so little for the Robins that they were handed a fine by Liverpool, joined Rangers in a deadline-day deal.

It is a return to Ibrox for the winger, who spent last season on loan at the Gers and managed to revitalise his career after his poor spell at the Robins.

In fact, Kent admitted last season that his poor spell at City had seen him fall out of love with football.

There was interest from Leeds United and Aston Villa this summer but Liverpool were unwilling to let Kent leave on another loan deal.

Villa's interest waned and Leeds could not stump up the reported £12m asking price.

The Gers also wanted him back on loan, and Kent was said to be keen to return to Ibrox.

Yet Liverpool dropped their asking price, which has allowed the Gers to complete a permanent move for the player.

The Liverpool Echo report that the fee is an initial £6.5m, with a further £1m in achievable bonuses.

Alongside this, Liverpool also have a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
