Revamp of Great Wolf Lodge in Poconos to include new villas, restaurant and more

Fun-loving families from the Northeast can soon enjoy an expansion and update to the kid-friendly Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos and its indoor water park, the company announced.

Now that's something to howl about.

Calling the updates the “most significant expansion in its history,” the multi-million-dollar improvements will include a big update to the lobby, a refurbished Cub Paw toddler pool, a new full-service eatery and, soon, three-bedroom villas designed for multi-generational families or friends traveling together.

“We’re making significant enhancements to nearly every inch of the resort, and then some,” the Pennsylvania lodge’s general manager, Bill Colavito, said in a statement.

While many of the refurbishments will be ready by later this year, the three-bedroom villas won’t be available for booking until mid-2023.

The 30 new villas, which will each pack in 1,500 square feet, will be built adjacent to the main resort. Called the Woodland Villas, they’ll feature three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living area, equipped kitchenette and a private outdoor space with scenic views. Construction started this week on the villas, which will also boast their own check-in area and lounge.

“Since opening in 2005, we’ve welcomed countless families, many who return year-after-year, often bringing additional friends or family back with them,” said Colavito. “The spaciousness of our new villas will provide the perfect getaway for larger families or friends who like to travel together.”

Changes coming much sooner include a remodeling of the Cub Paw Pool, an activity area for toddlers located within the larger waterpark. Opening in late March, the revamp will feature frog and turtle-themed splash pads, kiddie slides, and a tree that sprays water.

And the updates coming later this calendar year include the new restaurant, which will offer a “more elevated dining experience,” according to the lodge, and an updated Grand Lobby with new carpeting, furniture and fixtures.

Besides holding the check-in area, the Grand Lobby is also where guests gather for free activities like dance parties and story time.

Located about 2 1/2 hours from New York City, the Poconos outpost of the Great Wolf Lodge chain holds an indoor waterpark, a seasonal outdoor pool, paid attractions that include an arcade and ropes course, as well as a few shops and eateries.
