Reusable sanitary pads which cost just £4 can be worn as much as you like

Given how tampons and sanitary pads generate more than 200000 tonnes of waste per year, it's time to re-think how women manage their periods .

One brand are offering a brilliant eco AND purse friendly alternative.

Earthwise Girls has come up with a reusable sanitary pad which can be machine washed and costs just £4.50.

The pads are made from layers of flannel and fleece and work exactly the same way as a sanitary towel.

There's a leakproof layer, microfibre core and another microfleece layer.

Mums-to-be working night shifts 'are a third more likely to suffer miscarriages'

They even come both with wings and without wings and in varying degrees of thickness too.

Poppers on each wing attach the pads to your underwear.

The pads are also stain resistant and need to be washed at just 40 degrees before being air dryed.

Earthwise Girls pads join an increasing host of reusable alternatives to tampons and sanitary pads.

Hanging on to your child's milk teeth could save their life in the future

It's believed the average woman menstruates for forty years and will go through around 20 tampons per cycle - although one man foolishly thought otherwise .

According to Diva Cup , this adds up to a staggering 9600 tampons over the course of a lifetime, which when you multiply that by the number of women in the world certainly adds up.

So what do you think? Could you be tempted to switch?
