Trapped Victorians in 'extreme risk' zones in NSW could soon return home.
Victorians in non-locked down areas of NSW are now able to apply for a permit and complete 14 days home quarantine.
Premier Daniel Andrews, on Monday, said there would be more news for those in 'extreme zones', which includes Greater Sydney, later in the week.
It comes a day after the premier released the state's road map out of lockdown, including government plans to restart both interstate and international travel once 80% of Victorians are fully vaccinated.
Mr Andrews on Monday confirmed the aim was to have freedom of movement across the country.
"Yes, there will be places around the world that will be safer from a virus point of view than what Victoria and New South Wales will be, because they will have less cases," Mr Andrews told reporters.
Melbourne Airport CEO Lyell Strambi welcomed the news, but called on the Federal Government to accelerate its vaccine rollout in Victoria as a matter of urgency.
"The sooner Victorians are double-dose vaccinated, the sooner they can plan Christmas with confidence," he said.
Melbourne Airport recorded its lowest passenger figure of the year in August, of just 73,805 travellers. That monthly figure is less than the average daily figure for August 2019, which was 100,711 travellers.
