Retro video games festival Power Up is back in Manchester - all summer

Dust off your old controllers because retro video games exhibition Power Up is back in Manchester - except this year, it's here all summer.

The popular annual festival is held at the Science and Industry Museum and gives gamers a chance to play on classic consoles, as well as the newest tech around.

In a matter of a few decades, gaming technology has advanced from Pong to near-photorealistic titles, and you can play the entire timeline in one place.

Visitors will get the chance to experience the beginning of modern video games with the Atari 2600, SNES and Dreamcast.

Those who prefer to look ahead can find cutting-edge VR and next generation consoles.

There's something for everyone, with more than 160 consoles spanning 40 years of the gaming industry.

As always, the late-night, adult-only sessions are coming back too, letting grown-ups enjoy mature titles while making the most of a licensed bar and food.

This year's event will last for the whole summer holiday and will be the first to feature hand-held devices, including the Game Boy, Atari Lynx and Sega Game Gear.

Mark Cutmore, head of commercial experiences at the Science Museum Group, said they wanted to give "more opportunities to play than ever before".

"We know that Power Up is one of our most popular events of the year, and with sessions selling out for the past few years we decided that a two-week run just wasn't enough," he said.

The event runs from July 20 to September 1. Ticket prices vary. For more information, and to book your visit, go to  msimanchester.org.uk/powerup  .
