With a possible heatwave on the cards for the upcoming Bank Holiday, sales of retro toys are set to soar this Bank Holiday weekend, according to Argos, where retail experts predict that kids will leave their smartphone and tablet screens behind and head outside for fun.
With Britain set to bask in the sunshine, the retailer analysed the sales boost July’s record-breaking heatwave generated for its traditional Summer toys, and predict this Bank Holiday’s expected heat wave will follow a similar retail pattern - which could see sales figures of some old favourites double.
Toy fans wanting to get nostalgic and cool-off from the heat boosted sales of old school favourites Mr Frosty The Ice Crunch Maker by almost 40 percent.
Elsewhere Slush Puppie Slushie Machine ales grew a whopping 88 per cent.
But it’s not just iced treats catching the eye of kids, and nostalgic adults - data from the chain also showing sales of paddling pools doubled during the midsummer heat, with water guns and super soakers also proving popular with a 70 percent sales increase.
Sales of the Chad Valley Slide and Splash Inflatable Bowling soared 72 percent as kids got slippery in the garden. Classic garden favourite Swingball is also set to see an increase.
Juliet Ward, Head of Toys and Leisure Buying at Argos, said: “Kids are so engrossed in apps and games these days, it’s really encouraging to see sales of classic outdoor toy favourites rise dramatically when the sun comes out.
"Generations of children have enjoyed Mr Frosty and Swingball and it seems the warm summer weather will persuade kids out of their bedrooms and into the backyard once again.”
