Retro game app partners with Disney to host classic Star Wars games

Retro games platform Antstream Arcade is adding beloved retro classic Star Wars titles to its extensive library of games.

The subscription-based game streaming app boasts that it is “the world's largest and most accessible collection of online games”, with a library of 3786 old school titles ranging from classic arcades, the Commodore 64, and Spectrum ZX eras, right up to more 'modern' examples like the original Worms for PC.

And now gamers will be able to play Super Star Wars, Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi through its streaming service too.

The franchise met classic run-and-gun gameplay with multiple characters from Luke Skywalker to Chewbacca as well as stages which featured other challenges, such as driving a landspeeder or piloting an X-wing.

These notoriously difficult titles were the most popular Star Wars games of their time.

It was later revived on the Wii virtual console in 2009.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing the retro Star Wars series to customers, taking us one step closer to delivering thousands of iconic games to the global gaming community through the power of streaming technology.

“The fact will be able to play Star Wars for the SNES on their laptop, Grim Fandango on their TV or Day of the Tentacle is a massive win for both existing and new audiences,” said CEO of Antstream, Steve Cottam.

The news also follows recent announcements of licenses obtained for Atari, Bandai-Namco, and Taito games, allowing 5-7 new games to be added to the app every week.
