Retirement age in politics should be 70 years, says Rajasthan BJP chief Satish Poonia

JAISALMER: BJP state president Satish Poonia has started a new debate by saying the retirement age in politics should be 70 years. On the possibility of the BJP central leadership bringing a new formula to give tickets to people aged 70 years and above in the forthcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan, Poonia said it is his personal opinion and if the party takes such a decision, then there is nothing wrong.

“It is important to focus on how new people and young generation get associated. It was experimented in many states and has been successful,” he said. Poonia added that earlier too the average age of block and district presidents used to be 60 plus years which has now been reduced to 35-40 years.

When asked if such a decision is taken then tickets would not be given to many big leaders such as former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, Arjun Meghwal and others, he said each leader and worker has their importance and at present, there’s a discussion on this formula and the party hasn’t taken any decision. Poonia came to Jaisalmer on a two-day visit on Tuesday.

Poonia said the party’s priority is to remove the Congress from power. “It is the good luck of the country that it has Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP has many capable faces and the party decides at its level when and which person has to be honoured,” he added.

Poonia said under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign from August 9 to 12, national flags will be unfurled in 50 lakh houses in Rajasthan and 20 crore houses in the country.
