Retired teacher set to spend 80th birthday alone given touching surprise by neighbours

A retired school teacher had a birthday to remember thanks to the kindness of her neighbours.

Elizabeth Ferrier had to celebrate her 80th birthday in lockdown without visits from her friends and family.

But little did she know that one of her neighbours had organised a touching surprise.

The thoughtful Clydebank resident posted letters through her neighbours doors asking them to come out on the street to celebrate Elizabeth.

Dozens of residents came out to sing Happy Birthday,at a safe distance, and enjoy a glass of prosecco.

Elizabeth's door was decorated with balloons to mark the occasion.

The birthday girl was visibly moved by the gesture and told her neighbours it was 'too much'.

Thank you to Elizabeth's neighbour Samantha for sharing the video with us.
