Retired Scots GP accused of threatening wife with violence

A retired Scots GP is to face trial, accused of threatening his wife with violence.

Medhat Salama, 68, appeared in answer to an undertaking at Falkirk Sheriff Court today.

The ex-medic, of Bo'ness, West Lothian, pleaded not guilty to a single charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner - likely to cause a reasonable person fear and alarm - towards his wife, Amira Elmetnewy, at an address in Tryst Park, Larbert, Stirlingshire, on May 15th (2021).

The charge alleges that as well as uttering the alleged threats of violence towards her, he also acted in an aggressive manner towards her and shouted.

The Crown state that the alleged offence was domestically-aggravated.

Salama's solicitor Gordon Addison told the court: "The couple were married and are now separated.

"He is a man of good character - a general practitioner until he retired."

Granting bail, Sheriff Christopher Shead set trial for November 15th (2021), following a preliminary procedural hearing on November 2nd.
