Retired Premier League star Micah Richards to donate £25,000 to help Leeds in lockdown

A former professional footballer has announced that he will be donating a huge amount of money to a charity or business in Leeds.

Retired Man City and England defender, Micah Richards, who grew up in Chapeltown, posted on Twitter that he would donate £50,000 to help those who need it most during the second lockdown, split equally between Leeds and Manchester.

The BBC Sport and Sky Sports pundit said he was handing the money to the cities as they “have been nothing but great” to him growing up.

He tweeted: “Lockdown 2 is gonna cause more deaths through depression, loneliness and financial stress. Leeds and Manchester have been nothing but great to me growing up so I’m gonna donate 50k! 25k each to two different charities/businesses in the two areas which I feel need it the most!”

Thousands of people have praised Micah for his generosity with some messages reading: “Not only are you a brilliant broadcaster but you're a brilliant man. This is a lovely thing to do.”

Another person said: “Class seeing people putting their wealth to good use.”

A third person added: “This bloke just gets better and better every time I listen to him. Hero.”
