Retired NHS doctor who was still working to save lives tragically dies after contracting coronavirus

A retired NHS doctor has tragically died after contracting coronavirus, his family has said.

Dr Alfa Saadu, 68, passed away on Tuesday, after being unwell for two weeks.

It has not been confirmed if he was on the frontline treating Covid-19 patients, but paying tribute to his father on social media, his son Dani said his dad was still working part time to save people, right up until he became ill.

He is the fourth UK medic known to have died after contracting coronavirus.

The married father of two grew up in Nigeria and moved to the UK when he was 12.

He was the medical director at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow before he retired in 2017.

He carried on working part time at the Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital in Welwyn, Hertfordshire.

"Up until he got sick, he was still working part-time, saving people.

"Coronavirus is not a joke, please take it seriously and listen to the government.

"Please stay safe and protect your loved ones, nothing is more important."
