A retired headteacher died after he fell from a ladder while gardening, an inquest opening heard.
Bryan Lloyd-Jones, 76, of Maengoron Isaf in Rhewl, Denbighshire, told his wife on the morning he was found dead that he was planning on pruning the ivy on an outbuilding before she left for the day.
When she returned home on Saturday, October 22, she found the lights were switched off in the house and then saw Mr Lloyd-Jones outside on the floor next to a ladder and a pair of garden shears, the inquest opening heard.
At an inquest opening held at Ruthin County Hall on October 31, John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales east and central, heard that Mr Lloyd-Jones was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.05pm.
A post mortem was conducted by Dr Mark Atkinson who provided a provisional cause of death of chest trauma (presumed fall). The inquest was adjourned to a future date yet to be fixed.
