Retired Gatehouse of Fleet nurse raises more than £1,000 for care home with garden bike ride

A retired nurse from Gatehouse got on her bike to raise cash for a local care home.

But Margaret Carruthers didn’t head off into the Stewartry countryside as she completed the 50-mile challenge on an exercise bike in her garden.

Her Gatehouse Big Bike In was held to support the team at Fleet Valley Care Home and she smashed her £1,000 fundraising target.

Manager, Sheila Kelly, said: “It went incredibly well and she raised more than £1,000 which is fantastic.

“We are very grateful that Margaret is thinking of us and making donations to us. It is very kind.”

Margaret took on the challenge to thank Fleet Valley for the care they provided for her father William and to support the work the home is doing during the Covid-19 crisis.

All funds raised are going towards the staff fund for team activities when life returns to normal.
