A retired north Dublin teacher who became the oldest person to cycle around the world will be heading to sea with 500 other men wearing only a dickie bow.
Dermot Higgins from Rush will be joining forces with the Mater Foundation for the charity event in Skerries.
It will be in aid of male cancer care in the Mater Public Hospital and monies raised will go toward state-of-the-art surgical equipment.
The Dickie Dip will be held on November 9 at 1pm on a private beach in the seaside town - and the location will only be revealed to registered participants.
Dermot, whose father died from cancer at age 62, is urging others to bare all and join him on the day in an attempt to raise €50,000.
Speaking to the Dublin Gazette, Dermot said: "He was the person who introduced me to the joys of sea swimming.
"His life was cut short - we could have had so many more years enjoying the great outdoors together.
"With prostate cancer, there are often no obvious symptoms.
"I hope that by raising €50,000 through the Dickie Dip we will go some way to ensuring that many more men can live longer and and more fulfilling lives."
