“Retired” Bulldog reportedly visiting NFL Team

After a disappointing end to his previous season with the New Orleans Saints, former Georgia Bulldog tight end Benjamin Watson will visit the tight end needy New England Patriots today. Watson “retired” after playing for the Saints this past season. They were eliminated by the Los Angeles Rams on a controversial pass interference call in the NFC Championship Game.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Watson is visiting the Patriots today.

Watson could fill the void left by another “retired” tight end: the Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski. The Patriots may wait until Watson wouldn’t count against the compensatory pick formula, which would be in early June. Watson would also make sense for the Kansas Chiefs, who are expecting to compete for a Super Bowl once again. At this point in his career Watson is likely considering Super Bowl contenders over teams like the Bills and 49ers.
