Results due early for NSW Year 12 students

The minister says education staff worked tirelessly to deliver HSC results earlier than forecast. (AAP)

Year 12 students who sat a HSC exam in 2021 will receive their results four days early after exams were marked ahead of schedule.

Results will be delivered via SMS and email to the outgoing class in NSW on Thursday January 20 from 6am, ahead of the planned January 24 date.

NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said students could now finalise their 2022 plans earlier than first planned.

"I know markers, supervisors, exam and marking staff have worked tirelessly to deliver these final results, not only on time, but earlier than forecast, and I am so pleased we can share this news with students," Ms Mitchell said.

Face-to-face learning only resumed in October following four months of home-schooling after a COVID-19 Delta outbreak swept the state.

The state's education department then delayed the start of written exams last year and implemented a number of changes to keep students safe from contracting the virus.

Year 12 students wore masks during their HSC exams and were not allowed to borrow or share equipment such as pens or calculators, while shaking hands or hugging was banned.

The delayed exam schedule also set back the date that results were to be delivered to students and schools.

The NESA website will publish students who achieve merits on January 20 from midday, and live-stream a ceremony for those who achieved first place in a course via its YouTube channel at 11am on January 19.

Universities will release ATARs to students from 9am on 20 January.
