Restricted patient who escaped from Glasgow hospital is found

A restricted patient who had absconded from a hospital in Glasgow has handed himself in.

Steven Wilson, aged 55, failed to return to hospital in the Glasgow area on Friday.

It is been confirmed he has self-presented himself.

The Scottish Government had appealed to the public for information leading to his whereabouts but warned people not to approach him.

Wilson was on the loose for a fortnight before the authorities made a public appeal for information on his whereabouts in 2012, when he absconded from Leverndale Hospital in Glasgow’s Crookston.

A similar appeal was made in 2007 when he went missing from the State Hospital in Carstairs.

Wilson was convicted of manslaughter at Knightsbridge Crown Court in 1988 after he stabbed a man to death in a drunken brawl outside a London pub.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Government said: “We are keen to trace this man as soon as possible.

“The public are advised not to approach him and if anyone sees him, or has any information regarding his whereabouts, they should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2471 of December 6.”
