Restaurants chief outlines key concerns ahead of indoor dining reopening

Strict rules for indoor dining may need to be renegotiated if they aren't working next week, the Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland has said.

Adrian Cummins explained that dealing with congestion at doorways could be a pitfall, adding that a reduction in the amount of paperwork being carried out would be needed.

Businesses will now have to track the details of people’s vaccine or immunity status on one sheet of paper and a second and separate sheet of paper should be kept for 28 days with their name and number for contact tracing.

Customers will have their Covid cert digitally scanned which will prove they are fully vaccinated or recovered from infection at the entrance of a premises.

The official Digital Covid Cert will be the only document accepted.

Customers will also have to present photo identification to staff to prove their Covid cert is theirs and will now also have to leave their number and name for contact tracing.

Mr Cummins told RTE's The Business: "What we need to do now is get our doors open from Monday and then look at how the operation of this new regime is in flow, and then we may have to go back to the Government to streamline what it is there to make it more operational for our industry.

"We are moving in the right direction but need to make sure it's streamlined into the future."
