Restaurant that wants to feel like a members clubhouse is coming to Cardiff

Plans for an all-day clubhouse venue for Cardiff's city centre have taken a step forward. Restaurant and bar chain Coppa Club, which describes its restaurants as "clubhouse[s] for anyone, anytime", will open its first venue in Wales on The Hayes.

Taking over the old Moss Bros site, the new Coppa Club, which will be known as The Cardiff Townhouse, will be one of a number of new restaurants on The Hayes to open soon. Permission has now been granted by Cardiff Council for alterations to be made to the shop front and new signage to be added.

It comes as high end steak restaurant Gaucho and The Giggling Squid are both set to open on The Hayes, while the Ivy Asia opened a branch on the street in the autumn. With venues mainly located in London and the home counties, Coppa Club has expanded outside of the south east, with venues in Bristol and Bath.

Coppa Club markets itself as a clubhouse with no fees, where "everyone's welcome". While each clubhouse is unique, the venues are said to share the same ethos of "effortless hospitality, relaxation and conviviality". Coppa Club opened its first venue on the Thames at Streatley in Berkshire back in 2015, inspired by private members clubs that are open all day.

Some of the clubhouses even have rooms for guests to stay overnight, however, there is no indication that this is planned for the Cardiff venue. The restaurant chain has a "British and Mediterranean influence" and offers a range of menus throughout the day, from coffee and breakfast in the morning to dinner and drinks at night.

Dishes from the grill, sourdough pizzas, salads, and grazing plates are among the fare on offer at the chain. The premises will be open from 9am until midnight from Sunday to Thursday and, from Friday to Saturday, the sale of alcohol will be allowed at the restaurant until midnight. It will stay open until half past midnight on these two days.
