Restaurant’s hilarious videos bring much-needed laughter

A restaurant has been raising much-needed laughter after posting hilarious videos online of how it’s tackling the coronavirus crisis.

With footfall dropping off, many food and drink businesses are launching takeaway options.

The Factory Kitchen in Ilkeston posted “completing field trials for our contactless service” – lobbing takeaways from the first floor balcony at a customer in the street, with one ending up on the road.

A second video shows a pint being clumsily poured from up above – with plenty of spillage – with the words: “Following the successful implementation of the takeaway food service we have extended our contactless service to include bar.”

The stars of the videos are co-owners Kevan and Jane Pierrepont and one of their most loyal customers Nick Hampson, who visits daily. They were filmed by the couple’s son Tom.

“It seems to have struck a chord today with people wanting to be cheered up,” said Kevan, who ends up splashed with beer as Jane pours as much over him as in the glass.

“Jane wanted to pour it over my head – I think that was the motive for it.

“Plus we are bored with not many people coming,” he added.

The first video has been viewed more than 45,000 times and has been retweeted by the Comedy Store.

Followers have responded with laughing emojis and much praise.

Ruth Dawson replied: “Thank you for making me laugh today.”

Donand MacLeod joked: “One or two minor kinks to be ironed out but generally looks good.”

Diane Martin commented: “Humour is important now.”

The restaurant, in Mundy Street, has only just started posted videos to Twitter and Facebook and it couldn’t be more timely with all the Covid-19 doom and gloom.

“We will keep posting a few videos so watching out over the next couple of days,” added Kevan.
