Restaurant owners were delighted to dish out cheques for £500 to schools as part of their festive appeal.
Brian Cunningham and John Mackay are the co-owners of Angelini’s Restaurant and takeaway in Bishopton.
Despite having a tough time with business this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, they stumped up £1,500 to give away to Renfrewshire schools to make sure pupils had a good Christmas.
They put an appeal online that asked customers to donate what they could and nominate deserving schools.

In the end, customers donated almost £1,500, meaning that six schools each received a fantastic £500 for them to spend on those pupils who need it most.
Brian and John were delighted to visit each school before the break and hand over the cheques.
Brian said: “We were delighted to run this year’s Christmas Appeal – 2020 has been a challenging year, like no other.
“The team at Angelini’s appreciate that not every child will have the same happy experience.
“Families have been hit by unemployment, and even the sad loss of relatives.
“My understanding is we helped over 150 children - which is fantastic.”

More than 2,500 nominations flooded in to the pizza place in Bishopton’s Greenock Road.

The primary schools that received the most nominations and landed the cash takeaway were West in Paisley, Auchenlodment and St Margaret’s in Johnstone, Barsail in Erskine, Kirklandneuk in Renfrew and Our Lady of Peace in Linwood.
