Restaurant owner in brutal reply to 'indecisive' diner's scathing Tripadvisor review

A restaurant owner has hit back at a diner who complained on Tripadvisor that his food lacked spice and then was too hot by claiming that he was "indecisive".

Jambavan, in Warwick, is one of the top rated restaurants in the town on Tripadvisor and receives regular rave reviews from diners.

But one recent reviewer left a scathing review about the quality of the food and the service, reported CoventryLive.

Paul, who visited in September last year, left a one-star rating claiming that the food was lacking flavour and spice, was "modest at best" and that he was "confronted" by management.

His TripAdvisor review, titled 'Poor Food, Worse Service', said: "Visited this restaurant during a 3 day break in Warwick.

A reviewer called Paul said that the food was first lacking in spice and then too hot (Trip Advisor)

"After having a starter each, which was modest at best along came the main (a Rogan Josh for me and a Biriani for my girlfriend). These are our usual main of choice whenever we have an Indian in England.

"Quite simply the main was lacking in any hint of spice."

He continued: "After asking for the Rogan Josh to be given a bit of a kick as it had none at all it was then taken back to the kitchen and brought back to me unpallatively (sic) hot.

"Skip to the end of the evening we were confronted by whom I assume was the manager who defended the chef by saying everyone has an off day.

The restaurant owner did not hold back in responding to the reviewer (Trip Advisor)

"We weren't offered any deduction of the bill even though I'd left the Rogan Josh as it was inedible. He didn't ask whether we'd enjoyed our meal as it was quite obvious that we hadn't.

"We paid the bill and left never to return."

And the owner of Jambavan, Mashuk, responded that he was happy that the reviewer was only in Warwick for a short break.

He said: "I’m glad you were only here for a 3 day break Paul, as I really can’t be doing with customers who like to have deductions from their bill. As it happens you never met me.

"We pride ourselves on the authentic food we serve, perhaps whilst ordering you should have specified your personal taste and another dish more suitable to your palate would have been suggested.

"I was informed that your dish was replaced. Want it mild! Want it hot! Want a deduction! Want a freebie! Do you exactly know what you want? Goodbye."

Jambavan has many top reviews on Tripadvisor with one saying they have dined there "for many a great Indian meal over the years".

Another stated: "Been for many a great Indian meal over the years but a great mix of southern Indian options with breads and rice perfectly cooked always a great sign."

A diner who visited the restaurant in December last year wrote: "We had a New Year’s Eve meal at Jambavan and it was the best Indian we have ever had, and we have tried many in the area!

"The food is authentic and perfect portion sizes. The menu is a nice blend of traditional and unique. The atmosphere is nice, friendly and relaxing. We will be returning!"

Jambavan has a four-and-half star rating on Tripadvisor, with 302 independent reviews of which 246 are excellent.
