Pub boss hits back after scathing review from punter who hadn't even eaten there

A restaurant manager has spectacularly struck back after a scathing review - by a person who hadn't even eaten there.

The mean one-star review of The Elm Tree in Glounthaune, Cork, branded the carvery "ridiculous".

But Roy O'Connell was having none of it, Cork Beo reports, and hit back.

The reviewer complained that they were not allowed book in advance - and when they got there the queue was about 30 people long, with most seats taken.

They claimed staff were "rude and stressed", and left without eating.

Not accepting the harsh review, The Elm Tree refuted the claims so others would not be deterred from trying their restaurant based on this one review.

Mr O'Connell said: "I'm sorry to hear you find our Sunday Carvery system 'ridiculous'.

"This is a system that has served our customers very well for over a decade now.

"The tables you observed with RESERVED signs are placed their by our team so they can seat people directly from the carvery queue. This avoids other people arriving and taking the seats prior to those in the queue.

"Our system works extremely efficiently and customers rarely have to wait for a table as they are directed to a table once they have their food.

"Either way I hope your enjoyed your meal elsewhere."

The Elm Tree often respond to reviews on the site, even the good ones - which they mostly are, and like to interact with customers it seems.

They have over 300 excellent reviews and have an impressive 4.0 review out of 5 - they are definitely worth checking out, despite what this reviewer thinks.
