A businessman found dead under the wheels of his own car had been in a parking row behind his west London restaurant, his family said today.
Manmeet Singh, 44, died outside the Passage to India in Hounslow on Saturday evening.
Relatives today said he had been confronted by a motorist who was blocked in the rear access road by Mr Singh’s Mercedes. He was pronounced dead at the scene at about 9pm.
His cousin, Rocky Sapra, said the victim’s wife had been left “distraught”. He was the father of a teenage daughter and a nine-year-old boy.
Mr Sapra said: “As far as I know it wasn’t anything personal. His car was parked at the back and these people wanted access. They came back a couple of times. It was all over a parking place — it makes no sense to destroy a family over that.”
Mr Singh also owned the Polka Store off-licence next door. Both businesses were closed last night.
Paying tribute to his cousin, Mr Sapra said: “We used to be business partners but I had to give up work when my wife passed away of cancer. He always supported me, I am so grateful to him.”
A nearby estate agent said a chef had described a man bursting into the restaurant to demand Mr Singh move his car: “He told them he couldn’t move it right away because the restaurant was busy and then the other man got angry and there was a fight.”
A man arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed.
