Restaurant owner 'devastated' as 'scumbags' break in and steal safe

A Merseyside restaurant fell victim to an early morning break in.

Police were called to Carouse restaurant in Rainhill in the early hours of Monday, April 4 to reports of a burglary. Damage was caused to the restaurant and a safe containing a substantial amount of money was stolen.

One of Carouse's owners, Steve Cooper says he is 'devastated' by the incident, with the restaurant only having been open a few months. He told the ECHO: "Everywhere has been quite quiet over the last month, and this is the first big weekend we've had for a while."

In a statement the restaurant said: "We are absolutely devastated. Last night two scumbags broke into Carouse at roughly 3am and caused damage and stole our safe.

"We’re still processing it and trying to work through but we need some help. If anyone from station road, Tasker Terrace, Victoria Place or surrounding areas have any CCTV from half two to half three of two men in dark clothing or a suspicious car please can you contact us.

"We have their faces on CCTV and their movements we just want to see if they get into a vehicle. This has all been given to the police.

"We’re so glad that no one was hurt and gutted that someone is clearly just using an opportunity to take advantage of our hard work and commitment. "

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At around 7.30am this morning, Monday 4 April, we received a report of a burglary at a business on Station Road, Rainhill. It was reported that unknown offenders had gained entry to Carouse restaurant between 7.30pm yesterday and 7.30am this morning.

"It was reported that a safe containing cash had been stolen from the premises Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

"If you witnessed the incident or have any further information please DM @MerPolCC on Twitter, message Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook or call 101, quoting log 152 of 4 April. Alternatively, call @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111."
