Restaurant ordered to improve after zero-star food hygiene rating

A kebab shop has been given the lowest food hygiene rating following its latest inspection.

An inspection by Liverpool Council found that Liverpool Shawarma Charcoal Grill requires "urgent improvement." The Lawrence Road restaurant in Wavertree was hit with a zero-star rating, placing it amongst the worst-rated in Liverpool.

Details released along with the zero star rating show inspectors felt improvements were needed in two key areas, including management of food safety and hygienic food handling.

Management of food safety includes an assessment of systems and checks in place to ensure food is safe to eat, evidence that staff knows about food safety, and the food safety officer’s confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.

The ‘hygienic food handling’ of the restaurant takes into account preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling, and storage. The cleanliness and condition of the restaurant building and facilities were also assessed with inspectors saying that a "major improvement" was necessary.

This area includes cleanliness and condition issues such as layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities, and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

The Liverpool Shawarma Charcoal Grill has been approached for a comment.
