Restaurant donates 51 meals to frontline staff at a West Lothian hospital

A West Lothian restaurant has donated 51 meals to staff at St John’s Hospital.

Jamuna Indian Restaurant in Uphall Station wanted to do something to show their appreciation for the NHS during the coronavirus crisis.

Owner Nazibul Hasan Afnan handed over rice, curries and pakora to grateful NHS staff at the hospital.

He said: “During this bad period, we wanted to support those working on the frontline for the NHS.

“I had a restaurant in Dundee and we did some charity work there, so I wanted to do something in Livingston too, especially with the way things are right now.

“I spoke to my own staff about how we might be able to help and do something for the local area and we decided to help St John’s Hospital.

“I called the hospital to ask if they’d be interested and they were, so we agreed a time to hand the meals over.

“They are risking their lives and if anything happened to me, it would be them supporting me so I just wanted to do a little bit to help them.”

The restaurant is closed but is open for takeaways and delivery —and they are donating 10 per cent of sales over the next three Sundays to the NHS.
