Rest proves key as fresh Stars wear down tired Coyotes

DALLAS _ The Stars took great care in trying to address all of the problems that teams exiting the NHL's mandated bye week have experienced this season, and it paid off Friday in a 5-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

That puts teams playing their first game after the five-day break at 5-12-4.

Dallas had a late practice Thursday and a fast-paced morning skate Friday and wore down an Arizona team that had played Thursday in Chicago. The Stars had a 37-27 advantage in shots on goal and scored three third-period goals to put the game away.

Jamie Benn and Devin Shore each had a goal and an assist, while defenseman Esa Lindell had two assists and played a team-high 24:31.

Dallas won its second game in a row and moved to 24-27-10 (58 points). Arizona, which was gaining ground on the Stars, fell to 21-32-7 (49 points).
