Every day, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people perform acts of resistance. This exhibition present works that depict the every day life of Indigenous people, and in doing so, takes on a voice for a people who are regularly silenced.
The artists represented in the exhibition include Shane Pickett, Julie Dowling, Laurel Nannup, Phyllis Thomas, Michael Cook, Christian Thompson and Sarah Hill. The works comment on Indigenous experiences, histories and cultures.
The artists counter the social norms of silencing by using this medium to speak for themselves and others who may have lost their voices. By countering these norms, their works become simple acts of resistance.
