Residents woken by 'large explosion' as car set alight in Coolock estate

A car was set alight and turned into a blazing inferno early this morning as local residents were awoken by a large explosion.

The 06 Volkswagen Passat was torched at the entrance to the Larch Hill estate in Coolock, close to the Oscar Traynor Road just after midnight.

A loud explosion echoed around the Dublin 17 area at 12.05am after the vehicle was set alight.

Dublin Fire Brigade, gardai and the Armed Response Unit (ARU) were at the scene within minutes to deal with the blaze.

There was no reports of injuries as a result of the incident, but dozens of residents in the Larch Hill area watched from a safe vantage point.

The huge flames were quickly extinguished by fire crews, who spent about 10-15 minutes dealing with the call-out.
