Scottish Water have insisted its water is safe to use after several Wishaw residents reported discoloured water coming from their taps.
Several people from the town contacted Lanarkshire Live regarding the problem which they have stated has been going for a couple of weeks.
A Scottish Water spokesperson acknowledged the resident’s complaints, moving to "reassure customers" that they can "continue to use their water as normal".
The spokesman told Lanarkshire Live : "Whether that’s for drinking, cooking, bathing and showering, all the regular day-to-day things we use water for.
“While it might look a bit different from normal, it is safe to use.
“The discolouration is being caused by naturally occurring manganese levels present in the water supply which is treated at Camps and Daer Water Treatment Works and then distributed to homes and businesses.
“We’re continuing to monitor the situation and we’re introducing additional treatment measures at both of the works to help minimise the discolouration.
“The levels of manganese are continuing to reduce.
"Please be assured that we are doing all we can to get things back to normal for our customers and thank everyone for their patience and understanding.”
John Thomson lives in Wishaw and has contacted Scottish Water about the problem.
He said: “The first correspondence I had with them was on August 16 as it had been dirty for a few days before this
“The water is a tan colour and you can’t bathe in it.
“We also can’t wash any white clothes as it’s discolouring them
“They say it is safe to use but there’s no way I’m drinking it.
“All the supermarkets in the area have little or no bottled water.”
James Loughran, from Netherton, also got in touch.
He added: "I disagree this is safe drinking water, let alone safe to bath in.
“Scottish Water have put out social media posts and articles saying it is due to seasonal high manganese levels in the water, and stating it is safe to drink, without showing any sort of evidence to back this up or making it public what those levels actually are.
“Would you wash yourself in this and more importantly would you drink this or have your children drink this?
“I think the answer would be no.
"We have a local Facebook group and everyone is having the same problem.
“I’m not drinking the water and I wouldn’t even put it out for my dog.”
