Residents urged to 'remain indoors' amid fire at recycling centre

RESIDENTS in Irvine are being urged to remain indoors and keep their windows and doors closed amid a fire at a recycling centre.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said they are battling a blaze at a waste centre on Shewalton Road in the seaside town.

It is understood that the service was called to the inferno at around 5pm on Tuesday, July 8.

In a statement on Facebook, SFRS urged locals in the area to "keep their windows and doors closed and remain indoors" due to high levels of smoke.

Currently, it is unclear if anyone has been injured during the incident.
