People urged to register white goods for product recall

Halton residents are being urged to ensure their white goods are registered for product recalls.

The warning has been issued by the council’s trading standards department and comes in the wake of a number of major recalls of white goods in recent years.

One of the most high profile was In 2019, when more than half a million Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines were recalled due to fears over fire safety risks.

But if white goods aren’t registered, owners will not be notified when manufacturers recall them.

Halton Borough Council’s Trading Standards department is now urging residents to register their white goods for project recalls.

According to the council, nearly half of all domestic appliances aren’t yet registered for product recalls and safety updates.

A council spokesman said: "During lockdown we relied on them to protect and provide for our families.

“Keep the magic going by registering. It’s free.”

The latest drive is part of a wider campaign by the council’s trading standards department, which has also set its sights on scammers targeting borough residents.

The spokesman added: “If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of our specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams."
