An 'unsafe' care home where a resident suffered 11 falls in just six days has been put into special measures.
Silver Birch Lodge in Aughton was slammed for its treatment of residents in a new report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

On the first day of the inspection, one person was found to be trapped in a bed rail. The following day, inspectors again found the same person entrapped in their bed rail.

This resident was then moved to a different bedroom without any risk assessment or care planning, and then suffered a fall and bruised their hand.
Another resident had fallen from their wheelchair and the incident wasn't recorded by staff.
Following the inspection - which took place over 11-15 February - the CQC said people living at the home are 'not safe and at risk of avoidable harm'.

There was no suitable fire evacuation procedure in place, and the provider 'failed to consistently undertake safety checks' when recruiting staff.
Four staff members had not had criminal record checks.

Silver Birch Lodge is based on Bold Lane in Aughton, and provides accommodation for up to 31 older people, who require help with personal or nursing care needs.
At the time of the inspection there were 21 people who lived at the facility.
A number of residents were not given their medication. One person had not received their eye treatment for 21 consecutive days, meaning they were at risk of becoming blind.

Staff responsible for the administration of medicines had not received training, and medications were not always stored safely.
In August 2018, the CQC ordered the home to improve, but standards have slipped further.

However the service was found to be clean by inspectors, and people living there said they felt safe and supported by staff.

Silver Birch Lodge was rated as Inadequate overall and placed in special measures by the CQC.

As a result of the report the home will be kept under review by the CQC and reinspected within six months.
Silver Birch Lodge declined to comment.
