Residents told to stay indoors as armed police descend on Welsh street

A man has been arrested after armed police carried out a search of a property.

Residents of Cadwgan Avenue in Old Colwyn were told to "stay indoors" as police with guns and dogs carried out a search. The road was closed from 9.45pm on Friday, May 28, with six police cars at the scene.

One lady who lives in the street told North Wales Live they’d been told nothing but when she came out to see what all the commotion was she was told to get back inside for her own safety.

A spokesman for the force said: "Earlier this evening (Friday), Officers from North Wales Police were dealing with an incident in Old Colwyn and a man was arrested. Later, during part of the ongoing investigation, police were supported by armed officers while an address was searched. A street in Old Colwyn was cordoned off for a short while as the operation was underway. The street has since been re-opened.

"The aim of the police operation was to minimise the risk to the public and we thank the local residents for their co-operation by staying indoors at that time."
