Residents told to keep windows and doors shut as firefighters tackle large blaze at a farm in Bolton

Residents are being told to keep their windows and doors shut after a large fire at a farm in Bolton .

Firefighters were called to the scene on Rosemary Lane at around 1.45pm.

It is believed that blaze started in a barn on the farmland.

The barn contains a large quantity of hay, and there aren’t thought to be any animals involved, the fire service said.

Six fire engines are still at the scene tackling the large fire.

Fire chiefs are warning residents who live nearby to keep their windows and doors closed.

People are also being asked to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 1.43pm.

"There was a fire involving a barn.

"It was well alight when we got to the scene.

"Six fire engines are in attendance at the minute.

"We are asking members of the public to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed if they live locally."
