Residents to light a candle for those affected by Ayr house blast that left family seriously injured

Residents will light a candle tonight for a community shattered by a house explosion in Ayr.

At 7pm — almost 24 hours since the disaster — people have been urged to show support with those who who have been left homeless or have been evacuated by the blast.

It will mark the end of a chaotic period for many families who have had to seek refuge with other relatives or within Queen Margaret Academy where residents were sent after a no-go zone was set up.

Churches across Ayr have encouraged a glowing tribute to those affected including a family of four who are fighting in a serious condition in hospital.

Police confirmed today that a 43-year-old mum and 47-year-old dad are in hospital in Glasgow.

Their two sons, a 16-year-old lad and an 11-year-old boy, are also bravely battling serious injuries in hospital.

Alloway Parish Church wrote on their Facebook: "Please light a candle at 7pm and say a prayer for all those affected by the incident in Kincaidston last night.

"Special thoughts are with the family in hospital who were injured."

Meanwhile, an online fundraiser for the community has been launched.

The Go Fund Me page set up by Kincaidston Community Centre hopes to raise £5,000 to help "rebuild the community" after four houses were left severely damaged with one completely destroyed and debris smashed into cars.
