Residents shocked after van erupts into flames on Glasgow street

A Glasgow van fire left locals in shock after the motor erupted into flames last night.

Stunned Dennistoun residents watched on as the vehicle burst into an explosive fireball at around 5.30pm.

Firefighters raced to the scene and managed to tackle the blaze before flames reached other parked cars sitting just yards away.

The huge cloud of smoke could be seen for miles and a picture from the scene shows the front of the vehicle completely engulfed in flames.

A local source said: "There was a huge fire down from the dog park with fire engines and everything.

"We drove past coming back from the shops, took the dogs out and you could see the glow from the top of Ingleby Drive."

Police Scotland told the Record the blaze is not being treated as suspicious or wilful.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 5.42pm on Wednesday, January 13 to reports of a vehicle fire in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised one appliance to Whitehill Street, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene."

"There were no casualties."
