Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson, investigating the incident, said: "This was a blatant act of vandalism which has left a village without their postbox, a service which will be vital to some of the residents.

"We would reassure residents that our officers are committed to investigating such reports of criminal damage and we understand how frightening it must have been for those who witnessed it.

"This was a mindless act of vandalism, however, we don't believe there is any wider risk to the public.

"Our enquries are ongoing and officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area. We would urge anyone who saw the incident or has any information to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 46 of 20 July 2021."
