Residents put up Christmas tree to draw attention to road hole dug more than a year ago

Fed up residents in Callander haven taken matters in to their own hands to make safe a hole burrowed in the road at a car park in the town.

Frustrated town’s folk have been left fed up by a hole that was dug at the car park at Callander Meadows more than a year ago and have tried to highlight the problem in bizarre fashion – by lighting up a Christmas tree on top of the hole.

A contractor for Stirling Council dug the hole as a test bore for a planned wall as part of a proposed flood alleviation scheme.

One local resident says that the hole in the road surface at the car park has been reported to the council numerous times without being repaired.

They added that pedestrians have been left risking injury as they trip over the hole and motorcycles have fallen over after hitting it.

The fed up resident added: “After waiting over a year, we took matters into our own hands. We filled it and marked it with hi-vis paint. No response.

“We re-purposed abandoned Scottish Water barriers left after they dug up the A84. No response.

“We decorated it for Halloween and still no response. So now we’re into the Christmas season and hoping the twinkle lights will get their attention.”

The Observer understands that Stirling Council is aware of the issue and has raised it with the contractor.
