People living close to the River Trent in Newark are being advised to temporarily relocate after a flood warning was issued.

A total of 31 warnings are currently in place across the county, with several communities along the River Trent affected.

A flood warning means people should consider moving family, pets and cars to safety.

Now, Newark and Sherwood District Council has issued a message for residents in Tolney Lane, Newark.

A statement from the authority on Twitter said: "Flood warning remains in place and the council, police and Environment Agency are continuing to monitor very closely water levels on the River Trent as they are continue to rise.

"Residents of Tolney Lane, Newark, asked to see if they could, if necessary, make alternative arrangements to temporarily relocate."

The authority has also advised residents along the Trent flood plain to look at arrangements they can make to protect their homes.

Meanwhile, recovery work is continuing to take place in Lowdham, which was badly hit by flooding on Sunday, February 16. An emergency was also declared.

A statement from the council on Twitter added: "Officers out today to offer further assistance, where necessary, to residents needing support."
