SHUNAN, Yamaguchi -- Tuesday marked one month since the extent of the damage caused by deadly torrential rains in western Japan became clear. Ten residents of the Higuchi district in Shunan, Yamaguchi Prefecture, gathered on the day to pray for the soul of Noriko Kawamura, 64, at the site where she was killed when a landslide demolished her house on July 7. Masao Yoshiura, 72, an acquaintance of the Kawamura family, said, "I want to help Mrs. Kawamura rest in peace by working to revitalize the community."
