Residents left 'disgusted' by needles left outside Clifton church hall used by children

Clifton residents have been left 'disgusted' after used needles were found near where children play.

The needles were left on the floor near the Rivergreen Church Hall in Clifton.

The Clifton Green Team were informed and cleaned away the needles on Saturday morning (April 6).

Maria Watson, 48, founder of the Clifton Green Team, said: "We have a few times come across needles but never this many in one spot.

"Members of the community contacted the Clifton Green Team which we run to inform us of drug paraphernalia and asked if we can clear it up as they know we respond as soon as possible.

"We have contacted Sgt Nigel Bradley today and let him know of this clean up, members of the community are disgusted at the amount of used needles found and are very thankful for our quick action to clean the area up."

Mrs Watson said if people come across needles they should contact the Beat manager, the Neighbourhood Op’s manager, their local councillor or the Clifton Green Team.

She added: "We were finalists at the NCH Star Awards for Best Green Initiative last month.

"We are a group of dedicated friends helping keep Clifton clean of litter and safe for the children of the community and a lot of the community do turn to us for a quick response.

"When we collect needles like those in the photos and dispose of them in the sharp bins we then return the used bin to a chemist for safe disposal of the items."

Nottingham City Council also runs a free service collecting used needles.

Councillor Toby Neal, portfolio holder for community protection at Nottingham City Council has previously told Nottinghamshire Live: "We carry out regular patrols and will always clear up, and, where possible, investigate so that action can be taken against those responsible.

"Members of the public can report this to us and we will respond promptly. The council also commissions safe needle exchange at pharmacies and other locations across the city.”
