Residents kept up all night as car alarm bellows out for 13 hours

Residents were left unable to sleep after a car alarm bellowed out for 13 hours in a quiet street in Lenton

Jiri Basovnik, who lives in Faraday Road, said the alarm on the 1991 Nissan Figaro initially went off at 10pm on Tuesday, November 19.

However, it wasn't until 11am the following day that the owner returned to silence the nightmare sound.

Mr Basovnik's partner had just returned from a 12-hour shift when the alarm began filling the street with an extremely loud 'beeping' sound.

"It was last night around 10pm and the alarm was on," he said.

"After about half an hour I called the police's 101 number and they informed me that it had been reported to [Nottingham city council].

"In the end, behind the wipers, there were about four notes from people on the street.

"We managed to get some sleep but it was not nice. I had a similar thing a few months ago but this time it went on and on.

"Last time it was just a few minutes. It can happen, I understand that, but there should be something that you can do to stop it."

He said the owners "sincerely apologised" once they returned to turn to alarm off.

Nottingham City Council said vehicle owners are usually tracked down as quickly as possible so they can silence the alarm.

The council says: "A Community Protection Officer will be tasked to investigate the alarm and contact the owner or occupier to arrange for the alarm to be switched off or reset.

"For externally sounding alarms, where the person responsible cannot be found quickly then the CPO will arrange for the alarm to be silenced.

"If the alarm is an internal alarm and the person responsible cannot be found quickly, then the CPO will refer the case to the Environmental Health and safer places team who will serve notice on the person responsible, before applying to the court to obtain a warrant to enter the property using reasonable force to silence the alarm.

"Please note that resolving this type of alarm incident will inevitably be a longer process."

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman added: "We received a report just before 10pm yesterday of a car alarm sounding on Faraday Road, Lenton.

"Our enquiries established that nothing suspicious was seen and there was no evidence of any criminal activity.
