Residents in Mansfield facing a 2.7 percent increase in council tax

Residents in Mansfield are facing an increase in council tax for the first time in a decade.

The 2020/21 budget will be considered by Mansfield District councillors at Full Council on Wednesday January 22.

Included is a proposed 2.7 percent increase in council tax.

This would mean those living in Band A properties would pay a total of £126.48 a year.

The rise in council tax would be the first since 2010/11 in Mansfield.

The council says that a total of £892,000 in savings have been made out of a net budget requirement of £10m in order to balance the budget.

Savings are earmarked to come through additional income from business rates, an additional one-off government grant, reduced insurance costs, reductions in pension contributions, income from rent from investment properties

Executive Mayor at Mansfield District Council, Andy Abrahams, said: “We regret that we have to raise council tax by 2.7 percent, which will bring in an extra £147,000.

"However this is part of our strategy to bring the council’s finances into a stable position going forward.

“Government funding has reduced by 61 percent over the past ten years and the danger is that if we don’t raise much-needed funds through council tax, the Government will consider we don’t need this money in future and it will affect future funding for our district.”

Proposed increases of council tax for 2020/21 in Mansfield by house bands:

A £126.48 a year, which is an increase of £3.33
