Residents at a block of flats in Leith had taken down an EU flag after repeatedly being targeted by vandals.
Threatening graffiti first appeared on the building at Cables Wynd last week, in response to a resident flying an EU flag from a window.
Spray paint reading "F*** the EU" and "Is EU windows fireproof" was seen on the front door, and the word "repatriation" appeared later.
Those living in the building had agreed between themselves to keep the flag flying, but they have now decided to take it it down after eggs were thrown at it on Tuesday night.
Anne Balfour, who has living at the building for 13 years, said advice from the police had changed.
She told Edinburgh Live: "Eggs were thrown at the window and at that point, given the current political climate, the police advice changed.
"Rather than giving into bullying, it is being seen as the sensible and calm course of action.
"It is a shame that it has come to this especially as the EU flag should be a symbol of peace and unity."
